Identify any rock in seconds.

Found a mysterious stone? Point your camera at it and Geodify names it in seconds, then writes up a full field report: rock type, Mohs hardness, composition, streak, luster, how it forms and an estimated value.

Geodify identifying tumbled tiger's eye as a solid match, with its type, hardness and estimated value

Every report reads on the Mohs scale

Hardness is the quickest check a rockhound has. Geodify places every specimen on the scale, and the Mohs test in the Field Kit lets you confirm it with what’s already in your pocket.

The field report

One photo in, a full entry out: what it is, how hard it is, how it formed and what it could be worth.

Geodify identifying peridot (olivine) as a solid match, with an estimated value

Entry 01

Snap it, and know what it is

Point your camera at a rock, crystal, gem or mineral, rough or tumbled, or pick a photo from your library. Geodify names it in seconds and says how sure it is in words: solid match, likely or uncertain.

Geodify field report listing hardness, composition, formation, streak, luster and the reasons for the identification

Entry 02

A full field report, not a one-word guess

Every result lists the rock type, Mohs hardness, chief composition, how and where it forms, the expected streak and luster, and why the call was made, from the colour, grain and fracture visible in your photo.

Entry 03

See what a find could be worth

Each report carries an estimated value range in US dollars, worked out from the visible size and quality and typical comparables. It is a starting point for your curiosity, not an appraisal.

Geodify's AI geologist explaining how to tell real peridot from green glass

Entry 04

Ask the AI geologist

Real peridot or green glass? Ask follow-up questions about any stone and get a clear, plain-language answer, like how to tell peridot from glass with a hand lens and a scratch test.

Geodify Mohs Hardness Test with the 1 to 10 hardness window and a list of candidate minerals

Entry 05

Check the call by hand

The Field Kit's Mohs Hardness Test walks you through a scratch test with a fingernail, a copper coin, a steel blade, window glass, a streak plate and quartz, narrowing the candidates as you go. It works with no signal.

From break face to field log

  1. 01

    Snap the break face

Photograph a fresh, clean face in good, even light, or choose a photo from your library.

  2. 02

    Read the field report

Name, confidence, type, hardness, streak, luster, formation and an estimated value.

  3. 03

    Confirm it by hand

Run the Mohs test, or ask the AI geologist when a look-alike is possible.

  4. 04

    Log the find

It is saved to your field log, ready to revisit or share as a card.

Field notes

  • Honest about certainty

Every call states its confidence, and when a photo is unclear or isn't a rock, Geodify says so instead of guessing.

  • Your finds stay with you

Your field log is stored on your phone and there is no account to create. A photo leaves the device only when you choose to identify it.

  • Built for the field

Paper-toned screens that stay readable in sunlight, and a Field Kit that works with no signal.

Field questions

What can Geodify identify?

Rocks, crystals, gems and minerals from a photo: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, quartz, agate, geodes, obsidian, gemstones and ores, rough or tumbled. If a photo is too unclear, or the subject isn't a rock or mineral, Geodify says so instead of guessing.

What does a result include?

A name and a confidence verdict (solid match, likely or uncertain), then the rock type, Mohs hardness, chief composition, how and where it forms, the expected streak and luster, an estimated value range in US dollars and the visible traits that drove the call. You can copy a result, keep it in your field log or share it as a card.

How accurate is it?

It is an AI estimate from a single photo, so treat it as a strong first opinion rather than a verdict. Look-alikes are common (green glass and peridot, quartz and calcite), so check hardness with the Mohs test, ask the AI geologist, and have important finds confirmed by a geologist or gemologist.

Is the value an appraisal?

No. The value range is a rough estimate from the visible size and quality and typical market comparables. It is not a gemological certification or appraisal, so don't buy, sell or insure a stone on it alone.

Is Geodify free?

Geodify is free to download and comes with a few free scans; free users see ads. Geodify Pro, weekly with a 3-day free trial or yearly, unlocks unlimited scans, the Field Kit tools and AI chat, with no ads. A one-time Remove Ads purchase is also available. Prices are shown in the app and vary by country.

Does it work without signal?

Identifying a photo and AI chat need a connection, because the analysis happens online. The Field Kit (the Mohs Hardness Test and the Rock Types guide) and your field log work offline.

What happens to my photos?

Photos stay on your phone until you choose to identify one; that photo is then sent securely for analysis. Your field log is stored on your device, and there is no account to sign up for.

Which phones does it run on?

Geodify is built for iPhone and Android phones.
